Sons of Ephraim

We read in Psalms 78:9, “The sons of Ephraim being armed, and carrying bows, turned back in the day of battle.” Aren’t we glad and rejoice that our salvation is free. The price of our redemption was fully paid by the shed blood of our Savior at the cross. That by faith alone in his sacrifice we are now sons and daughters of God.

Oh, how true that is! But you see the Bible then goes on to tell us we must fight the good fight of faith. That receiving Jesus isn’t the end but the beginning. Romans 5:2 tells us this gives us access, or we could say this is the door we step through where we find nothing comes easy as we wrestle against the principalities and powers. Here we find every promise and blessing requiring our utmost effort and attention.

As my dear wife Dolly says. We can not lay under the Guava tree and pray for God to drop the fruit in our mouth. We must plant the tree, water the tree, climb the tree and peel the fruit. For we have been born to this life of faith and never fear. God has placed the weapons in our hands, but we must overcome.

The sons of Ephraim were in the land of God’s promised victory and life. The same land Caleb, through faith destroyed the giants and inherited this covenant land flowing with milk and honey. They simply fainted in their own minds and did not believe in the power God had given them to obtain his promises. I pray today for you,

“That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that you being rooted and grounded in love, may be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breath, and length, and depth, and height; and to know the love of Christ, which passes knowledge, that you might be filled with all the fullness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us. Unto him be glory in the Church by Jesus Christ throughout all ages, world without end, Amen. Ephesians 3:17-21
