If I were to ask you, who is the light of the world today, you might quickly say to me. Why are you asking me this? Everyone knows Jesus is the light of the world. You could then turn in your Bible to John 8:12 and read to me where Jesus spoke and said,
“I am the light of the world: he that follows Me shall not walk in darkness but shall have the light of life.”
If I said to you that isn’t exactly true you would be quick to show me 1 Timothy 2:5 where it tells us,
“There is one God and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus.”
I would say to you, your theology concerning Jesus Christ is right, but you are misguided in believing He is the light of the world today.
Let us turn to John 9:5 where Jesus said,
“As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.”
In doing this we must also read what he said in Matthew 5:14,
“you are the light of the world.”
As the boss would say to the laborers, it is time to get off of your rump and up on your feet. Out of the shade and into the heat!
“He that takes not his cross and forsakes all that he has can not be my disciple.”
This isn’t philosophy, this is responsibility! Oh, but I haven’t been called. That is not true. You see Jesus never said I will come call you he said in Revelations 3:8
“I have set before you an open door and no man can shut.”
You see he isn’t calling you he is inviting you,
“Ask and you will receive, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall open.”
Whatsoever you ask in My name I will do it.
He has already called you the first time you read Matthew 28:18-20,
“All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you always, even unto the ends of the world.”

I extend to you the invitation to take up your cross and join me in that which is your responsibility to forsake everything and be the light of the world as Jesus tells us we are to be.
My life of following Jesus is not easy, but I always find that it's always satisfying and worth it.
